Dear
Friends,
I have been quite busy since I last wrote to you. I attended my first Steering Committee meeting in London on October 14, and it was a mammoth session lasting over 4 hours. One of the issues raised was the proposal to do away with the annual national Proud seminar and have single day sessions on a regional basis in order to save money. It was pointed out though, that the seminar was not just a training session, but also a valuable opportunity for members to meet in a safe and friendly environment. People have found much support and friendship in meeting at such a large gathering. Happily, the proposal was thrown out. I have also attended the new Midlands TUC LGBT network group, which will be meeting about every two months. The meeting was very well attended, and a wide range of unions were represented. So, very good news on the organisational front. We had our members’ meeting/social in Leicester at the ‘Rainbow and Dove’, which is an excellent venue for those of you that don’t know the place. It is convenient for the railway station, and a comfortable and relaxed environment, so definitely somewhere to return to in the future. I hope you will receive this newsletter in good time to attend the next social, which is arranged for Saturday 23 November 1.00pm. at the Coco Lounge, George Street, Nottingham. We thought we would go for lunchtime to try and make it easier for those members who have to travel. So I hope you can make this one! You are also more than welcome to bring your partners along. I have attached a map to help you get there. I have enclosed a survey from LESBIAN AND GAY EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS, which I would ask you to take time to read and respond to. Please note that I have a new email address – eastmidlands_proud@yahoo.co.uk I hope that I will meet some of you at the seminar, but if not, please try and make it to our local meeting on November 23. Kind
