London.
Smelly, crowded, hectic, impolite, overcrowded, wonderful London.
The best city in the world and here I am with the honour of being
its joint Proud representative.
I've been with the Inland Revenue/HMRC for five years, accidentally
came across Proud three years ago and have since tried to raise
our profile both in my office and at HMRC gatherings. While there
have been great advances over the last few years, as highlighted
by Civil Partnerships and The Equality Act (Sexual Orientation)
Regulations 2007, there is still a long way to go, both in the
workplace and in the wider world, until LGB&T people can feel
truly equal. The current Civil Service changes are having a major
impact on PCS members. The issue of relocation raises some problems
that are specific to LGB&T members, such as the possibility
of having to make yet another ‘coming out’ decision
and the different social environments around the country. Our
employers should be aware that these are real concerns and our
members should be aware that they can raise them.
Your London representatives would like to involve as many people
as possible in raising Proud's profile in the region through social
events, campaigns and interacting with external groups, encouraging
people to make use of Proud, our members and our experience.
A little about me: I play guitar, banjo and couple of other instruments
(though not as much as I should), spend far too much time online
(as some of you may have noticed), am a member of CAMRA (the Campaign
for Real Ale), am a fan of Douglas Adams, Stephen Fry and Peter
Gabriel and still think Tom Baker was the greatest Doctor, though
David Tennant is obviously far cuter. If you would like to raise
any issues, have any suggestions, need some help or advice, please
send an email to: dave.plummer.pcs.proud@gmail.com

| London Spring Social 2009 |
Yes! Finally! A decision has been made, a table has been reserved and the dancing poodles have been trained.
It will be upstairs at The Retro Bar, 2, George Court, London, WC2N 6HH, from six o'clock on Friday 27th February.
That's payday for a lot of us and a few days before the next National Committee meeting.
The Retro Bar is smashing: decent music (I've never heard any Kylie in there) and a good atmosphere. Alas, there's a tragic lack of real ales.
There's more information, including maps and stuff, here: http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/24/2449/Retro_Bar/Strand
Come out of Charing Cross Station, hang a right, walk past MacDonald's, walk a bit further and it's down a small street on your right.
There might be a competition and, if there is, there might be prizes.
Or a prize.
But it probably won't be up to much.
Still, it's the thought that counts.
Spread the word.
BTW: I apologise to any mobility impaired people that will find the venue tricky. Unfortunately it's tricky to find a decent bar with halfway decent access. If you know of one please let me know.
(This announcement is also available in Facebook, Forum and will soon be available in Magazine! Collect all four and be the envy of all your friends.)
