About Your Reps

Dave Plummer

London. Smelly, crowded, hectic, impolite, overcrowded, wonderful London. The best city in the world and here I am with the honour of being its joint Proud representative.
I've been with the Inland Revenue/HMRC for three years, accidentally came across Proud two years ago and have since tried to raise our profile both in my office and at HMRC gatherings. While there have been great advances over the last few years, as highlighted by Civil Partnerships and The Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2007, there is still a long way to go, both in the workplace and in the wider world, until LGB&T people can feel truly equal. The current Civil Service changes are having a major impact on PCS members. The issue of relocation raises some problems that are specific to LGB&T members, such as the possibility of having to make yet another ‘coming out’ decision and the different social environments around the country. Our employers should be aware that these are real concerns and our members should be aware that they can raise them.
Your London representatives would like to involve as many people as possible in raising Proud's profile in the region through social events, campaigns and interacting with external groups, encouraging people to make use of Proud, our members and our experience.
A little about me: I play guitar, banjo and couple of other instruments (though not as much as I should), spend far too much time online (as some of you may have noticed), am a member of CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale), am a fan of Douglas Adams, Stephen Fry and Peter Gabriel and still think Tom Baker was the greatest Doctor, though David Tennant is obviously far cuter. If you would like to raise any issues, have any suggestion, need some help or advice, please send an email to: dave.plummer.pcs.proud@gmail.com

And a little bit about my co representative, Debbie …
Hi – I’ve been employed by the Metropolitan police since 1988 firstly as a Traffic Warden and then in 2001 I took a promotion to become a trainer of Traffic Wardens and Police Community Support Officers. However I went part time in 2002 – 2005 and then took a career break which is about to end any day now. And what was I doing for the last 5 or so years – studying at Ruskin College (Oxford) and as a result I’ve just completed a three year degree in Social Work following a 2 year diploma in Social Change. I have not got a clue what I’m going to do with them but hey the 5 years was a blast.
During this time I still played an active role in PCS both at branch level (treasurer) and within Proud (chair of standing orders for the last couple of years). I have been involved in several LGBT campaigns and attended as many events, marches, prides and conferences as possible. I am also a member of the Oxford City Amnesty International group and recently co set up a local pro choice group.
Like Dave, I want the London region to be heard and noticed within PCS Proud but also in our London community. You can contact me on 02hollde@ruskin.ac.uk and I look forward to hearing from loads of you.

Galop Survey
Dear all

Galop, one of London's oldest LGBT charities (we campaign and give advice about homophobic and transphobic hate crime), is conducting a survey on behalf of Westminster City Council, about the needs and experiences of lesbian, gay bisexual or trans people who live, work, study or socialise in the borough.

The survey is completely confidential - Galop will undertake the research, and do the analysis of the data, and we will pass on a final report to the Council. The report will include recommendations for ways that WCC can do more for the LGBT communities.

If you fill in the survey, you can also enter a draw to win £100, and sign up to join a focus group to tell us more.

If you are lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans and you live, work, study or socialise in Westminster, we'd love it if you could take 15 minutes and fill the survey in. It's vital that the survey is representative, so we need the maximum number of people possible to do it.

You can find out more and fill in the survey at <http://www.galop.org.uk/survey> www.galop.org.uk/survey.

Please feel free to email me at <mailto:survey@galop.org.uk> survey@galop.org.uk, if you have any questions or comments.

With best wishes
